What is Crestor? 

Crestor is prescription medication that is classified as an HMG-CoA Reductase inhibitor and antilipemic agent.

Uses

What is Crestor used for? 

It is used to treat familial hypercholesterolemia, dyslipidemia, and for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (brand name only).

How does it work?

It exerts its lipid lowering effects by upregulating hepatic LDL receptors which enhances uptake and catabolism of LDL. It also inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL which contributes to the reduction of VLDL and LDL particles.

How do I take my Crestor?

Take your Crestor tablet by mouth daily as directed by your healthcare provider.

What should you know before you take Crestor?

Rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure secondary to myopathy and/or myoglobinuria have been reported in patients taking Cozaar.

Caution in those with hepatic dysfunction and/or alcohol use.

Dose adjustments are required in those with a renal dysfunction of CrCl < 30 mL/min and not receiving hemodialysis.
