What is Colcrys (Colchicine) used for?

It can be used prophylactically and treatment of gout flares in adults as well as familial mediterranean fever (FMF) in adults and children 4 years or older.

How does it work?

It works by exerting anti-inflammatory effects by interfering with the migration of neutrophils to sites of inflammation. It also blocks the inflammasome complex.

How to take Colcrys?

Take your medicine as directed by your provider; it is important to note, your dose may need to be adjusted several times to find what dose works best for you. Colcrys can be taken without regard to food.

Colcrys is available in 0.6mg in tablets, capsules, and oral solution.

What is the recommended dosage?

For patients taking Colcrys for the prevention of gout flares, the recommended dosage is 0.6 mg once or twice daily.

For patients taking Colcrys for the treatment of gout flares, the recommended dosage is 1.2 mg (two 0.6mg tablets) at first sign of symptoms followed by another 0.6mg tablets 1 hour later.

These doses may vary based on patient-specific factors, refer to your doctor for dosing recommendations.

What to do if you miss a dose?

Using propylene glycol in large amounts can be potentially toxic and has a positive correlation with lactic acidosis, seizures, and respiratory depression.
