It is used to improve glucose control in patients with diabetes. 

How does it work?

It lowers blood glucose by increasing peripheral glucose uptake. It also works by  inhibiting hepatic glucose production, lipolysis, and proteolysis.

You should take Tresiba as directed by your physician, your dose should be individualized to your glycemic needs.

Tresiba Flextouch (insulin degludec injection) is available in 100 IU/mL pens and 200 IU/mL pens.

What is the recommended dosage?

Tresiba should generally be dosed once daily at any time but should be at the same time each day. The specific dose varies based on patient-specific needs, for dosage recommendations refer to your doctor.

There is no maximum recommended dosage of Tresiba.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose you should inject your normal daily dose as soon as you remember, then continue with your normal dosing schedule, ensuring at least 8 hours of separation between consecutive injections.

When undergoing changes to your insulin regimen hyper/hypoglycemia can be a risk, ensure consistent glucose monitoring when changes are made. 

Hypersensitivity reactions can occur, if you experience any swelling of the face, tongue, or throat after administering Tresiba seek immediate medical attention. 

If you are currently taking a -thiazide-type diuretic for heart failure monitor for signs and symptoms of fluid retention as changes in your insulin regimen can put you at an increased risk for fluid retention.

How should this medication be stored?

Unused Tresiba Flextouch (insulin degludec injection) pens should be stored between 36℉ and 46℉. Open (in use) pens may be stored at room temperature for up to 56 days.

  • Hypoglycemia is by far the most common adverse event associated with insulin. If you notice symptoms of hypoglycemia you should check your blood sugar levels and treat accordingly. 
  • The dial on each of the pens is in units.
