Diovan is a prescription medication that is classified as an angiotensin II receptor blocker and antihypertensive agent.

What is Diovan used for?

It is used for the treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (NYHA class II to IV) in adults, hypertension in those ages 1 year and up, and post-myocardial infarction.

How does it work?

By selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, it blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II.

How do I take Diovan?

Take your Diovan tablet by mouth at the same time everyday as directed by your doctor. You may take it with or without food.

What if I miss a dose?

ARBs do not appear to increase the risk of angioedema. Patients with a history of angioedema due to an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi) must be educated that angioedema can occur even months after medication discontinuation.

Caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction. Dose adjustments may be needed.

Avoid use in patients with ascites due to cirrhosis.
